The LIRA-FEM version 2025 will use a different protection from Wibu-Systems AG, a German business. There are two options for protection keys:

A software protection key (CodeMeter) is a stationary security protection on a certain computer.

The licence is assigned to the user's computer. This is convenient if the user works on one computer all the time. If suddenly you have to transfer the licence to another computer (system reinstallation, breakdown, etc.), it will be possible but will require a number of steps that will take some time. The licence will be kept in the cloud in the future, making computer-to-computer transfers simpler. However, this option won't be accessible for another year.

A hardware protection key (USB) is portable security device that is not assigned to a certain computer.

The licence is stored in a physical flash drive (USB dongle). As a result, the software can run on several computers. Similar to version 2024, the software will function where the key is inserted.

Net workflow is supported by both hardware and software keys.

Local and net keys

The so-called local key can contain only one licence for any LIRALAND product (LIRA-FEM, LIRA-CAD) and can be used locally. You have either to connect the hardware dongle to the USB port of your computer or download the software dongle using the Licence Management Tool (LMT). If you have the CodeMeter driver installed (it is installed with LIRA-FEM program), your software will detect the licence and run it in commercial mode. Every workstation in the office should have its own unique key.

A network key may contain several licences for several products (LIRA-CAD, LIRA-FEM). To use these licences simultaneously on several computers, the CodeMeter Server is required. Compared to employing individual (local) keys, this application offers greater flexibility because licences are shared among users as needed.

CodeMeter Network Licence Server

System requirements and installation

CodeMeter Network Licence Server is an integral part of the CodeMeter Runtime package. To install CodeMeter Server as a network licence server:

  • You need a computer that is always connected to the network. A server operating system is not required. Workstations running Windows 10 or Windows 11 can be used to perform CodeMeter Server functions.
  • This computer must have either a software dongle installed or at least one free USB port for connecting a hardware dongle.
  • The CodeMeter Runtime package must be installed with selected options Network Server and Remote Access to WebAdmin. Use the link in the Download Center section or open the CodeMeter folder after installing LIRA-FEM 2025 (...\LIRALAND\LIRA-FEM 2025\CodeMeter\).

Setting up and running the server

To customize the server settings, on the computer that acts as the CodeMeter licence server, follow these steps:

  • Launch CodeMeter Control Center (from Applications or via the Start/CodeMeter/CodeMeter Control Center menu) and press the WebAdmin button.

The CodeMeter admin panel can also be opened directly from a browser by typing an address localhost:22350

The CodeMeter administration panel is a web-service where you can modify different settings and parameters, monitor licences, and run diagnostics.

  • On the Configuration menu, point to Server and click Server access.

  • Follow the setup instructions shown in Fig.5: enable the network server, specify the network port (the default port is 22350, it is not recommended to change it), enable the CmWAN server, specify the CmWAN port (the default port is 22351, it is not recommended to change it). To apply the settings, press the Apply button.

When the network server is enabled, licences are granted via LAN; when the CmWAN server is enabled, licences are granted via WAN.

  • On the Licence Access Permissions tab, add static IP addresses for the clients and press the Apply button.

For the classic plan (access of all users from the local network of the central office and access from the Internet for some specialists from their home computers), the configuration is shown in Fig. 6.

If access to the licence should be restricted over the local network as well, add the IP addresses of the local network computers that are allowed access (e.g. 192.168.0.103). In some cases, to start the CodeMeter server with the new access rights, it may be necessary to remove the CodeMeter network dongle and insert it into the USB port once again.

  • Open the CodeMeter Control Center. To ensure that all defined settings are applied, on the Process menu, click the Restart CodeMeter service command (Fig. 7).

Settings on the Client side

Clients may find the server on the local network automatically. If this does not happen (for example, the server is on a different subnet or the connection is via the Internet), it may be necessary to specify the IP address of the server hostname. To do this, on the computer that acts as the CodeMeter client, follow these steps:

  • Launch CodeMeter Control Center (from Applications or via the Start/CodeMeter/CodeMeter Control Center menu) and press the WebAdmin button.

The CodeMeter admin panel can also be opened directly from a browser by typing the address localhost:22350

Since the CodeMeter key is not on the client's PC, there is no information available.

The computer name of the client PC is displayed as the Current server, and the IP address of the client PC is displayed as the IP address.

  • On the Configuration menu, point to Server and click Server access (Fig. 10) and make sure that the network server and CmWAN server are disabled.

  • On the Configuration menu, point to Basic and click Server Search List tab (Figure 11), add a new server by specifying the external or internal IP address of the CodeMeter server (Fig. 12). Then press the Apply button.

Multiple servers may be present in the server search list. The CodeMeter client searches for available licences in a particular order and only on the specified servers.
  • Open the CodeMeter Control Center. To ensure that all defined settings are applied, on the Process menu, click the Restart CodeMeter service command (Fig.13).

The rest of the settings remain by default.

  • When all the above-mentioned settings are defined, run the LIRA-FEM program on the CodeMeter client PC. The software should get a free licence from the server computer. If there are several licence servers, you could find out which key is used. To do this, in the LIRA-FEM program, on the Help menu, click About (Fig. 14).
